The FDG is committed to recognising the sterling work its members and branches do in undertaking in teaching and training people in the art of fly dressing and fly tying.
To ensure that we properly recognise this work, by largely unsung heroes, the committee has invested time in developing a national accreditation scheme.
In 2009 and 2010 this accreditation scheme was piloted by the Ringwood, Sussex & Thames Valley Branches.
In 2010 largely thanks to the work of the committee and FDG member Eddie Wilkinson the FDG attained the status of a recognised training centre with the Open College Network (OCN).
During 2011 we will continue to develop the accreditation scheme by developing the necessary documentation to register structured syallabi in Fly Dressing/Tying with the OCN to cover all levels, from beginner to advanced.
The Executive Committee (EC) of the main guild (and with the help of other FDG members) will undertake all of the hard work in developing these syallabi so that the branches can easily undertake and participate in the accreditation scheme without them investing too much time and undertaking large amounts of onerous paperwork or bureaucracy.
The EC will recognise the work of branches undertaking the scheme, which is essentially a structured approach to teaching beginners through to advanced, by awarding them the status of Accreditation Branches and in recognition of the work they do they will receive an annual payment provided that 100% of the members undertaking the training are also members of the main guild. The amount of payment to the Accreditation Branches will be decided by the EC on an annual basis.
At the moment the scheme is limited in that it is only available through our branches. As the scheme takes hold and more instructors are trained we hope we will be able to offer the scheme to members who are not in branches or who are members of branches that have chosen to not be involved in the accreditation scheme.
