Statement of Intent
As a requirement under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, the following Statement and Policy Guidance sets out the health and safety objectives for the Fly Dressers Guild.

Aims
The Executive Committee recognises its legal duty for providing a safe and healthy workplace and suitable working environment for its staff, volunteers and others (contractors, visitors and the public) that could be affected by its work or undertakings.

Health and safety is a management responsibility and the Executive Committee is committed to ensuring that it is an integral part of the core management activity of the Guild. The Executive Committee shall lead by example in communicating and promoting this policy and our aim shall be to strive for continuous improvement in health and safety performance. The Flydressers Guild requires all Officers of the Executive Committee and branch Committees to demonstrate positive leadership in the promotion and management of health and safety.

Key Objectives
In order to achieve these aims the Flydressers Guild is committed to implementing the following in order to achieve the key objectives for which the Executive Committee shall be held accountable:

FDG To integrate health and safety planning into the Flydressers Guild’s activities
FDG To support a positive health and safety culture throughout the Guild
FDG To ensure that competent specialist advice on health and safety is available to the Flydressers Guild
FDG To ensure effective communication and consultation with members, potential members, the public, service users, potential users affected by the Flydressers Guild’s activities


Organisation for Implementation of the Policy
The overall responsibility for this policy lies with Executive Committee and the Executive Committee delegates this authority to the Chairman for implementation.

The Flydressers Guild shall define through the Executive Committee and keep under review the organisation it has in place to implement this policy. This shall include defining specific health and safety responsibilities of members, potential members, the public, service users, potential users and the workforce in areas of policy making, responsibilities and any specialist competent advice.

Arrangements for Implementation of the Policy
The Officers of the Executive Committee are responsible for the management of health and safety in their area of responsibility and are therefore also responsible for translating the Flydressers Guild’s policy into appropriate health and safety management arrangements. These arrangements shall be based on identification of hazards and the control of risk.

The Officers of branches are responsible for the management of health and safety in their branch and are therefore also responsible for translating Flydressers Guild’s policy into branch health and safety management arrangements. These arrangements shall be based on identification of hazards and the control of risk.

Review
The Flydressers Guild is committed to reviewing and developing its policy, organisation and arrangements for implementation to ensure that it remains both current and relevant. To achieve this it shall document a review process that shall be undertaken annually, with additional reviews initiated if a major change to premises or activities were to occur.
