Spring 2007 Fishing Shows

Go Fishing
The shows and exhibitions season has already started. At the beginning of March we attended the Spring Fly Fishing Show at Newark and in the middle of the month we attended the Go Fishing show at the NEC, Birmingham.

The two shows could not have been more different. The Show at Newark was designed specifically for fly fishers where as Go Fishing was for all angling sectors, including sea, coarse and game. The Newark show was compact and contained in a new building on the Newark showground whilst Go Fishing occupied one of the largest halls in the biggest exhibition complex in the country.

At both events the guild concentrated on teaching the public to tie flies, and boy did it work. At Newark Stuart Wardle and Dave Watkins worked manfully single-handed whilst at the NEC at any one time there were eight members teaching, with the result that 152 Black and Peacock spiders were tied by beginners in three days at Birmingham.

Whilst there was a difference in size and audience, both of the shows exceeded our expectations and thanks must go to all who contributed to the success of the events.
